Thinking About a Home Re-Wire? Here’s What to Expect

If your home’s electrics are showing their age—or if you’ve just moved into an older property—it might be time to consider a re-wire. But what exactly does that involve?

At Watt & Co. Electrical Ltd, we know the idea of a full house re-wire can sound a bit daunting. So here’s a quick breakdown of the basics.

1. First things first – working out your specification.
Before anything begins, we need to know what you want when we re-wire your home. What I mean is, how many sockets per room, will they be USB sockets, do you want bedside switches or things like wall lights etc? Locations of sockets, switches and lights isn't important at this stage, we just need to know quantities to put together your fixed price home re-wire quote.

2. Planning the layout.
Next, we’ll talk with you about how you plan on using your home. This is when we can discuss locations for your sockets and I can help guide you.

3. Getting the messy bit out the way.
To re-wire your home, we’ll lift floorboards and channel walls where needed to run new cables. Yes, there’s a bit of disruption—but we keep it as tidy and stress-free as possible using specialist tools to keep dust levels down. Usually we start from the top and work our way down the property.

4. Fitting the new sockets and switches.
Normally when re-wiring a home, we'll do 1st fix which is all the messy work in the previous step and then come back for second fix which is where we put all your new sockets and switches on. This is your opportunity to upgrade to decorative sockets and switches. Usually, this stage of the re-wire comes after you've had making good/plastering carried out but that's not always possible.

5. Fuseboard and testing… done!
Finally, we test everything we've installed to make sure it’s safe and working as expected. You’ll also get an electrical installation certificate and of course a building control notification

We’ve helped homeowners across Bath and West Wiltshire with safe, reliable home re-wires—always with a friendly, no-fuss approach.

Take Care When Selecting an Electrician!!

Many Electricians in Bath and West Wiltshire are simply not interested in small electrical works. They want the choice jobs, and will drop you like a hot potato when a bigger, supposedly more lucrative, project comes in.

Others advertise as electricians having no qualifications.  They thrive on the basis that you don’t understand what they do and, as a result, overcharge for shoddy, and often dangerous, work.

I set up Watt & Co. Electrical in order to fill a gap in the domestic sector. I want to provide you with a quality service that provides you with exactly what you need from an electrician.
