💡 "I can't install this light"

New dining room light

That’s something I say often when installing new lights on old wiring. In many homes around Corsham and Wiltshire, older lighting circuits may not have an earth wire in the cable which means no earth connection at the light fitting. Sometimes this only becomes noticeable when replacing old light fittings with newer metal ones. Some modern fittings are "Class 2 insulated", which means they’re designed to operate safely without an earth connection. Others are not. That’s why it’s important not to assume every light fitting is suitable for every property. A good quality electrician will make sure your new lights are being installed correctly.⚡ Have you ever changed a light fitting and discovered unexpected older wiring?
